Who will use the SCIP public portal? What are some expected use-cases?
Information that is available via the Substances of Concern in articles as such or in complex articles (Products) (SCIP) dissemination portal, also called the SCIP public portal, is accessible to the general public and may be used or referenced by anyone.
There are a number of expected types of users and predicted use-cases for SCIP information:
- Businesses may use the public portal to research competitors' products.
- Consumers may use the public portal to research products they own or plan to buy.
- Waste stream operators may use the public portal to research potentially hazardous substances in waste products they work with.
- Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) may use the public portal to research products or substances they are concerned about.
