REACH & Formaldehyde

Question: What is the status of formaldehyde under European Union (EU) Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation?

Answer: Formaldehyde is listed as a substance of very high concern (SVHC) and is also included in Annex XIV. This means that authorization requirements apply, and companies must communicate the presence of formaldehyde within articles supplied to downstream recipients when the substance is present above the 0.1 percent weight by weight (w/w) threshold at the article level.
