What is this request about?
The California Cleaning Product Right to Know Act of 2017 (also called SB 258) is a California law requiring manufacturers of cleaning products sold in California to disclose certain information about product ingredients.
The Cleaning Product Act applies to certain cleaning and air-care products sold in California and used primarily for janitorial, domestic or institutional cleaning purposes. Manufacturers that fall under this scope must provide certain information to their clients if the product/s contain chemicals on a designated list.
How do I start?
In order to be able to complete this request, you will require information on the chemicals contained in your product/s. Amongst other information, your client is asking for the chemical name, CAS number and the role the chemical has in your product/s. If you do not manufacture the product/s yourself, the information can be obtained by requesting it from your suppliers.
Why is my customer asking me for this information?
Your client is requesting this information from you in order to identify any actions they must take under the terms of the Cleaning Products Act, such as posting information online or updating product labels.
In summary, your client needs this information to continue to place designated products on the market in California and to support ongoing efforts towards transparency and safer cleaning products.
