TCO: Country of Origin Data Conflicting with USMCA Status

Question: My company is using Assent's Trade Classification & Origin solution, and we have a supplier who has claimed the U.S. as a product's country of origin in the survey. However, they also said they are not claiming USMCA preference status for this part. These seem like contradictory answers. Why does the system allow this type of entry?

Answer: Assent's platform splits out country of origin and destination mapping data from free trade agreement (FTA) preference claims. This is done to allow customers to run a validation exercise identifying any potential overlooked opportunities to pursue preferential treatment under an FTA for imported goods.
