Updates to the European Union (EU) Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation’s Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) Candidate List (better known as the "SVHC list") are published twice per year, at the discretion of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). Updates do not occur on any specific date or schedule, but are usually made in winter and summer. More specifically, updates historically occurred in December and June but have recently occurred in January and early July.
Because there is no set schedule for SVHC list updates, it is industry standard to plan for updates based on the timing of prior years' updates. Companies should also be aware of changes to the Registry of Intentions, which is where the ECHA publishes substances that are under consideration for inclusion on the SVHC list.
