What is EU Packaging?

The EU Packaging Directive was adopted in 1994 and is the main piece of legislation dealing with packaging and packaging waste in the EU context. The goal of the Directive is to improve the environmental performance of packaging while ensuring all packaged goods can move freely between countries without unforeseen legislative packaging barriers.

Under this Directive, many EU member states require companies to periodically report on the packaging they use, including quantity/weight, type and the material used in the packaging.
